I applied for Tfn on 06/02/2026 and it didn't arrive for quite a long time, yet I changed location to live. I'm beginning to worry as it's approaching the end of the month, hence I just applied for Tfn again and this time I put in the new address I'm living in. I don't know if this means my previous application was unsuccessful or not, as I can still apply for a new one? Will there be any problem if both applications went through? And if I can get the new Tfn I applied what will happen to the old one?

Hi @asdfghjkl,

You shouldn't apply for a TFN more than once, even if your first application is taking longer than expected. Submitting multiple applications can actually slow down the processing and cause delays.

Our service standard is to process TFN applications within 28 days after we receive them. Since you applied on 6 February 2026, you're still within this timeframe. If you've recently moved or made a mistake with your address on your application, we recommend redirecting your mail with Australia Post to ensure your TFN is sent to the right address.

We have checks in place to prevent issuing duplicate TFNs to the same person. If both applications do get processed, we'll identify that they're for the same individual and won't issue you two separate TFNs. However, the duplicate application may still cause processing delays.

If it's been more than 28 days since your first application and you haven't received your TFN, don't lodge another application. Instead, contact our individual tax enquiries line.
