Hello,

Have been living in Dubai for 3 years and have been terminated on administration grounds, still redressing at present. Returning to Australia will cancel any other employment opportunities outside of Australia due to travel ban. So am thinking of opting to stay for a few months, I have paid rent and other expenditures to stay but have little savings and once the employer sends letter to bank will have little access to funds in my account here.

Am I able to apply for access to super I had contibuted, or, any super? If I can I know I will be able to further my employment oportunities by completing certain courses in my field. If I don't get this access then I will have to return to Australia where I will no longer be able to apply for positions I have been earmarked for here and around the middle east area.

This would not be a problem due to COVID.

Hi ChrisB79

From the sounds of it you won't be able to access any of your super.

It sounds like you're an Australian citizen, rather than a temporary resident of Australia. A temporary resident can receive a Departing Australia Super Payment when their visa has expired and they've left Australia, but an Australian resident / citizen must satisfy one of the other conditions of release to be able to access their superannuation savings. eg retirement.

There's a severe financial hardship release condition - but to be eligible for this condition someone must have been receiving a government income support payment for the past 26 weeks.

There's information on this page on our website about early access to superannuation, but based on my reading of how you've described your situation I don't think you'll be eligible for early access to your super.
