Hi,

My crypto platform gives me ongoing cash referral bonus where I receive a small ongoing percent of the fees that they make on my referrer trades.

Is this considered a gift or taxable and if so where do declare?

Hi @gabgab1,

The platform is lucky to have you to help them grow.

It's well worth having a look at what a gift is for tax purposes. A gift is something you receive for nothing. Because you're receiving the cash for a service, in the form of a referral, the cash isn't a gift.

If you use the cryptocurrency as an investment, you'll include the cash as investment income.

When you're in the business of cryptocurrency, the cash forms part of your assessable income.
