I moved to Berlin Germany in July 2021 with the expectation of getting employment here. I have not been able to find a job. My savings are running out and I'm facing severe financial hardship and homelessness. I want to be able to get an early release of my superannuation funds. I can't get Centrelink while I'm here. This is a seriously stressful situation. Help please

Hi @Bat1Frog

@JodieATO's answer assumes you're not an Australian citizen.

If you are an Australian citizen, you will need to meet a condition of release. For financial hardship, it's a condition that you are receiving Australian government income support payments for at least six months to be eligible. Unfortunately, if you've not been receiving them, you won't be eligible.

There is an option for compassionate release where you are at risk of foreclosure of your home, which may be an option, depending on your circumstance.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. The laws around super are strict, however, there may be other eligibility requirements you meet in order to access your super early.

Hi @Bat1Frog,

That sounds like a difficult time, lets see if we can help with some information. If you were in Australia under a temporary resident visa, has it expired or been cancelled since departing here? If so, you can apply for a departing Australia super payment (DASP). Just use the online submission and your fund will be able to process your application for you. This generally only takes 28days, you may also be able to request the payment go directly into your bank account. You can use the link for further assistance.
