My mum has recently passed and i've been advised to look into her superfund to see if there is a relevant death benefit (to help pay for the funeral, settle debts etc)

At the time of her death she has no active/open accounts with a super fund, ATO are holding a small amount but I want to know - because it's held by ATO and not in a superfund, is there still any relevant benefits to be paid to beneficiaries?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @slh98,

Sorry for your loss.

We'll pay the amount that we're holding.

If your mum had a valid binding death nomination then the unclaimed super would be paid to those nominated. If not, then its paid to the legal personal representative.
