Why is the ATO asking for BSB and account numbers for my superannuation suddenly? My Super doesn't have a BSB and account, but instead a USI and member number - and the ATO already has those - is already getting the relevant updates from the super fund. I am confused by this notification and what to do about it.
Hi @ccharles,
Where are you getting the notification from, is it via email?
Have a look at the information on the moneysmart website where it talks about superannuation scams.

I just came to ask exactly the same question!

Hi CaroATO,
It is a notification within the ATO site, as accessed via MyGov. It is there on the home page - " you have 1 notifications" and then the message is: "Your superannuation account details You need to add bank account details for your superannuation account. To do this, go to Financial institution accounts."
Hello @Ccharles,
This request can be a little confusing when it comes up. There is an ATO superannuation account attached to everyone's tax file number and at times there may be a credit in the account that may be able to be refunded for a variety of reasons. You can check this under the tax accounts section of ATO Online Services to see if there has been any activity in that side of your account. It is also good housekeeping to have bank details attached to your ATO accounts. This allows for quick refunds and lower processing time for your claims with the ATO.
Hi TeddyATO,
Thanks for your reply. I have checked the tax accounts section as you have suggested and there is no activity there.
There is no reason that I can think of that the ATO would put money into my bank account in connection with my superannuation - I'm just a normal wage earner, not paying my own super, not close to retirement, I haven't initiated FHSS or anything at all - and I assume that someone would contact me if there was some specific reason.
My bank account details are already attached to my tax account.
So I will just assume that this is a random reminder and doesn't require any action from me, until/unless there is specific information to the contrary.
cheers,
C
I have the same question as @ccharles and @FrancescaL.
Your answer @CaroATO does not address the issue.
The request to enter superannuation account details does NOT come in an email. It is in a message on the ATO website linked from MyGov.
(If an image could be uploaded here, a screen print could be provided - but it can't.)
Hi @Arfur,
Have you used the super tab to check whether there's been any recent super transactions or whether we're holding any super balance for you? There are times where we need to confirm your details in order to make a super payment to you.
However, we'd also recommend you be aware of online scams and report these via our Tips to protect yourself from Scammers page.
