I have logged onto my gov and found messsages stating i am overdue on my activity statement and now the debt has doubled. I cancelled my ABN a few years ago after having a small part time business where I did not earn enough to pay tax. This is the first activity statement that I have had. My business ceased 10 years ago . I have tried for two days to speak to someone at ATO but I am unable to as it is busy and cuts you off .

Hi @JulesG,

I am sorry to hear that when you have called the phone line was disconnected. We are experiencing higher than normal call volumes.

There could be a few reasons as to why you have a debt on the activity statement account. We would need to know more about what the debt was made up of to assist you. You can view the statement of account to determine why it is in a debt position.

If you have received a notice about an overdue payment on the activity statement account, you may be incurring general interest charges. If this is the case, you can request a remission of general interest charges.
