I have worked in Australia for a few months and build up a super. Not knowing if I would come back in a few years I just let my super be. Now I know I won't be returning I want to claim my super and after some contact I found out my account was deactivated and I should contact the ATO. There is no way to contact them except phone as far as I know and since I'm a foreigner calling would include international charges and I won't be guaranteed a helpfull response. So no thanks...

So I made a MyGov account.

Tried to link it to the ATO.

Which wanted me to get a MyGovID, so I downloaded the app.

Now I can't verify my identity with any Australian Documents since I don't have any.

When I try to verify my identity trough VISA it won't work either, probably since it's expired because I went home over a year ago.

How can I get the money from my super back if it's impossible to verify my identity??

Hey Emmely1997,

If you're eligible for the departing Australia super payment (DASP) there are a couple of ways you can apply. You can apply by the DASP online application system, or you can use a paper form. You can read more about how to claim your super on our website.

If you're wanting to set up a MyGov account, you won't be able to link it to a MyGovID if you don't have the identity documents to reach a standard identity strength. You should still be able to link your MyGov account to the ATO by answering 2 secret questions between you and the ATO. You do need to select a sign in option when linking and the one you'll need to use is the MyGov code generator app.

Hope this helps!

@AnitaATO

Thanks for your reply, I've gotten one step further.

Now I seem to have issues confirming my record to link to the ATO.

You have to pick two things again, which for me would be my superannuation account details and my bank account details. However when I enter the information I get an error saying this does not match what is held on ATO records.

For my details I also had to enter an adress, which obviously I am not living at anymore since I went back to my home country. Since my own actual adress was invalid I submitted the one I was living at at the time of my stay.

If you have any more info that could help me? Thanks in advance
