I am an employee, I am currently completing a FY21/22 tax return. I have two assets that are between $300 and $1000. I added them to the assets tab in the Depreciation and capital allowances tool. I read from this page below that I am able to transfer these assets to the LVP as an employee.
I wanted to compare the depreciation between the general assets depreciating as normal and the LVP depreciation. So I transferred them to the LVP to have a look. Note, I have never used LVP before.
When I exited the deductions screen, I noticed that there was now a new section in my tax return for Sole trader / Business, which has a loss in there equivalent to the depreciation amount for these two items in the LVP. I was not able to delete this section from my personalisation section in Step 3 as it had pre-filled data from the LVP which populated into this. This section is scary and I have no idea what this business talk is but I couldn’t delete it. I now want to un-transfer the assets from the LVP and pretend this nightmare didn’t happen, but I am not able to. I am able to delete the assets from the LVP, but I can’t delete the history it shows in the assets tab that I transferred these two assets to the LVP.
I contacted Live Chat to see if they could provide some help to delete this stuff but they also did not understand why I could not reverse this transfer whilst I am still editing my return. Can I fix this issue within this tax return? I will delete the drafted tax return to undo this LVP transfer if I have to.
If you have the time, could you also please explain why LVP assets elicit the sole trader/business section even though the guidance indicates an employee can use this function?
