Hi there!

My last tax return was digitally lodged on May 16th 2023 by my tax agent and the NOA, according to my account, should have been issued on June 1st but wasn't.

My tax agent suggested I reconcile all my accounts (which were BAS related anyway) just to make sure there is nothing else holding up the refund that I believe is due. When I go into the ATO website and look at the Manage My Tax Return it says it needs to be manually processed but neither myself or my tax agent has received any communication from the ATO about any extra information that is needed. As I type this message, it is now June 22nd.

Is there any insight that can be shared here as to why it has been almost 6 weeks and the refund hasn't been processed.

Thank you

John

Hey @JoFe,

We're sorry you haven't received your tax return yet. It's great that you've made sure all you other obligations are up to date as this can sometimes delay it. If you're return needs to be manually processed, then it can take longer. There could be many reasons why there may be a delay in processing your tax return. This could be due to:

  • lodging an amendment before the original has been processed
  • you lodge more than one tax return at a time
  • we're checking information with other government agencies
  • we're checking information provided on your tax return e.g., bank, employer, shares etc
  • you have a tax debt that was previously on hold

If we do need any more information from you then we'll contact you, or your tax agent. You can continue to check the progress of your tax return using ATO online services.
