Hi there,


i lodged by ITR on July 1st. It said the effective date is July 14th. However, my status is still “Balancing Account”.


i spoke to someone from the ATO contact centre and they said there was a system issue on their end and that is not letting my refund getting processed. He gave me a reference number to quote next time.


i dont have any debts with any govt agencies and have never used them.


Has anyone faced this before and knows how long this might take? I have left Australia and it is costing me to keep my phone number active and also the account. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

The standard processing times for returns is 2-4 weeks!

 

We can’t view your account from here but a "balancing account" means that we’ve got the result of your return, and we’re working out your refund or bill.

 

You mentioned you lodged on the 1 July, were your income statements tax ready? That could also be a reason for the hold up as we will need to complete manual checks.

@YianaATO Thanks for letting me know. No, one of my income statement was not tax ready but i am sure the numbers were correct. The "effective date" has passed 6 days ago though. Do you think anything can be done from my end to process this one? Also, are you aware of a "system issue" in my case. I have not heard of this before.
