Roster is 4 Days, 4 Nights and 4 Off which incorporates weekend work as the normal hours. Should superannuation be paid for the Saturdays and Sundays as these are the ordinary days worked? If so would superannuation be paid on the penalty rates for Saturday and Sunday or the base rate of pay? Average work per fortnight is approximately 90 to 100 hours. At present, superannuation is only being paid on Monday to Friday plus shift allowance which only equates to approximately 45.6 hours per fortnight even thought up to 100 hours are worked. Please help!

Super is required to be paid to eligible employees on all their ordinary time earnings, these are an employee's ordinary hours of work which are typically outlined in an award or agreement.


If the Saturday and Sunday's, you work are as a normal working day and not over time then the pay will be subject to super. If the time worked on those days is considered overtime, then super is not required.


You will need to check your ordinary hours of work with your employer or within your award or agreement. For more information you can visit our website for an understanding of ordinary time earnings and overtime.
