Hi all,

During the 2022-2023 financial year, the following employments occurred including jobseeker payment

  • Total income -21K from the fixed term employment A
  • Total income -19K from the fixed term employment B
  • Jobseeker total payment -4K before employment of A and B

Question1: Why has Jobseeker payment -4K pre-filled as it has been withheld ZIRO tax?

Question2: How to claim tax-free threshold as having multiple incomes during the financial year?

From each employment, in the TFN declaration form, the question of the tax-free threshold was answered "YES" (Do you want to claim the tax‑free threshold from this payer?).... In this case what should be done with tax-free threshold when preparing the tax return?

Look forward to seeing your replies...

Many Thanks.

Hi @TrixEr,

JobSeeker is a taxable payment and needs to be included in your tax return. Regardless of whether any tax has been withheld or not.

When you say you had multiple incomes during the financial year? Were you working for employer A and B at the same time? If so and you have claimed tax-free threshold on both you may have not paid enough tax.

Refer to our webpage about income from more than one job and when you have claimed the tax-free threshold.

You don't need to do anything about tax-free threshold when preparing your tax return. We will work out whether the tax withheld during the financial year on the total income above $18,200 from employer A, employer B and the JobSeeker payment is sufficient.
