Hi there, I am Hung and I am an international student. I am thinking about having part time job after semester. I want to know if I receive the tfn or not. I actually start to create the tfn on 19th November, 2025 and after a month, I don’t see any information about the my tax file number from mail. I do try to have a call to ask about my TFN. But I don’t get any responses. Maybe I call them in the wrong time or busy. Now, it is 19th May, 2026 and I hope it is not too late for me to have tax file number. I do have the ATO application file after I finish adding the information. I need to know what to do to have tfn. Did I do something wrong? Because I see my email in ato application file is written in uppercase letter.

This is a forum, it would be best you contact ATO
I do try to have a call to ask about my TFN. But I don’t get any responses.
- Calling 132861?
- "For individual enquiries, phone 13 28 61 between 8:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday to Friday to discuss:
- myTax
- tax file number"
I do have the ATO application file
- So you did send it to ATO?
Because I see my email in ato application file is written in uppercase letter.
- Usually ATO would send the letter containing your TFN by post (physical mail)
Hi @Hung-Nguyen,
As it's been 6 months since you applied for your TFN, your best option is to call us directly to follow up on your application, as there may be an issue that needs to be resolved.
The email address being in uppercase letters on your application file won't cause a problem.
Alternatively, you can submit a TFN enquiry form to ask us. This will take longer to process though, so it would be better to try calling us first.
It's not too late to get your TFN sorted out. Once your TFN is active, you can start your part-time job, and your employer can use it to withhold the correct amount of tax.
