Hello,

I am a former temporary visa holder who worked in Australia and I am now living overseas (France).

I am trying to link my ATO account to myGov in order to lodge my tax return. I successfully started the linking process, but after entering my details I received the following message:

"Call us to complete the linking process. You are unable to proceed. More information is needed before you can link your ATO record. Error code: ICI.001."

The issue is that I am currently outside Australia and I am unable to call the ATO phone number provided.

Could someone please advise if there is an alternative way to complete the identity verification and link my ATO record to myGov from overseas?

For example, is there a secure online message service, email address or another verification process available for people living abroad?

Thank you very much for your help.

Kind regards,

Jérémy

Hello @JeremyV,

If you're getting that error, it's either because:

  • the system was unable to verify the details, or
  • you're ineligible to link online.

This means you won't be able to link yourself and you'll need phone our individual enquiry line to complete the process.

Because you said you're now overseas and unable to link yourself it might be easier to return a paper tax return. Have a read through our web guidance, lodge your tax return from outside Australia.
