When completing MyTax I nominated to receive the rebate for both my husband and myself. After entering the required details in MyTax for 2022/23 when I press the tax estimator button it shows that I owe a tax liability for “Excess private health insurance premium reduction or refund” with the amount being higher than the rebate we received. I understand that I do have some liability as the income tier we fall under this year was higher than we had previously estimated to our health fund. However how can my liability be higher than the actual rebate we received? Is there a flaw in the MyTax estimator?
Hello @Rohini,
I know its really easy to look at the myTax estimator and expect the number it presents to be an accurate representation of the outcome of your return. In truth for the simplest of returns it can be a rather good view of the outcome, however it is an estimate for a reason. If you see something wrong the best thing to do is to double check you have entered all the amounts you require into the return correctly. If you have done that then you can ignore the estimate as your outcome will be based off our processing of your return not an online estimator.
