Hi everyone,
I'm a sole trader and incurred GIC due of $1,200 due to late lodgement. When I spoke to my accountant, I was instructed not to pay the GIC before requesting for a remission. I sent a letter through the ATO secure mail portal requesting for a remission, it's been 2 weeks and 3 days but ATO has not responded yet. When I checked on my ATO account, the GIC is now overdue for payment. I'm not sure what to do now, should I pay it while waiting for a response from the ATO?
When does the ATO reply to secure mail online?
Last time I called the ATO about how to lodge GST, the operated just told me to speak to my accountant. Honestly, I cannot afford my accountant's retainer fees- that's the only way they will prioritise my business. Otherwise, they would not respond to my queries if I'm not paying their monthly subscription fees.
Is there a way the goverment can help/provide info to small businesses on how to properly lodge and deal with tax obligations without telling me to just speak to my accountant?
