When I go to lodge my tax return on the ATO website, it says it is due on the 15 May 2024, not October 31 2023? Why is this the case, and can you confirm I won't be fined if I lodge it in May 2024?

Hi @Alice_Mainsbird

This is a Tax Agent lodgement due date.

So if you have a Tax Agent lodge for you last year, they would still be on your record as your representative, and they receive additional time to lode, given the amount of clients they have.

If you choose to lodge with them, you will keep the due date 15 May 2024, if you lodge it yourself through MyGov. the due date will revert to 31st October 2023, and you may receive a late lodgement penalty if lodged after this date.

Hope this helps :)

I had the same question, and now it is halfway solved. Could i know, does it mean that I can pay my tax before 15th of May and there will be no penalty for that? (I should mention that the tax agency is just waiting for me to pay it, but i couldn't arrange the money yet)
