I had to lock my account a while ago due to a potential scam, however since doing this I haven't been able to re-gain access to my account, with the error message "Unable to verify your identity" appearing, directing me to call the ATO to verify. Unfortunately I work full-time so find it very hard to find time to make this call, and on the two times I have done, it has proved useless.

I have re-linked my MyGov as told by the helpline, as well as various other attempts to verify my identity. The last call I made, they told me my account was unlocked and that it would take an hour or so to update, which did not happen.

Why does this keep happening? And is there a way to resolve it that doesn't involve me on a hold-line for hours?

Hello @Lsyndicas,

Normally when you've reported a potential scam on your account we add extra security. As you've discovered, this means calling to get your account unlocked every time you need to access it.

It's best to chat to our Client Identity Support Centre as they're the ones that put the extra security on your account.
