I have been retired for 8mths. My previous employer is paying me a performance bonus From 2023. I have been advised I need to open a new superannuation account with a fund. Can the super component be directed to the ATO instead of me having to join a fund.

That would mean that your employer will not get a tax deduction for the super contribution,

and would also have to pay extra.
