My super fund has four options for contributions: Compulsory, salary sacrifice, personal and spouse. They have advised me to use the salary sacrifice option for a concessional contribution, as well as using the Notice of intent to claim or vary a deduction for personal super contributions form.

These 2 ideas are mutually exclusive, so you need to clarify the advice that you have been given.
