Hi I have applied for compassionate release for my outstanding council rates. The nice lady from ATO told me that all she needs now is the itemised breakdown of over the years rates on and Council letterhead (I forwarded her the itemised breakdown on a email sent to me by the council). I contacted the lawyer who was acting on behalf of the council and they got back to me saying that the council does not do it on letterhead. Does it sound weird? I mean I am sure that this have been done before for ATO to request such documents. My questions is would it suffice if I purchase the council rate yearly on the council website and attached it with the email itemised breakdown from the council which I sent earlier. Please help, I am so closed to getting approved as I have provided everything else.

Hello @Yanzx

Right

So, as per our procedure the Foreclosure notice needs to be on a council letterhead.

Does the email from the council include some form of identification that it IS from the council?

Like under the signature at the bottom, is there a council stamp or anything?

You know when businesses email you and they sign off with a standard way of identifying that's who they are.

As per the legislation, it does say on our public website that the letter has to be on the council's letterhead.

If the email did have some way of identifying it's from the council, this 'may' be accepted.
