I recently lived in Australia for a year on a 417 visa. I have since returned to the UK and currently attempting to do my tax return.

I couldn’t log in to MyGov as didn’t have access to my AU mobile number. So I have to phone up, create a new MyGov account and now relink my ATO.

HOWEVER, I cannot seem to link my ATO from outside of Australia as I do know have an Australia passport or driving licence and my 417 visa has expired. I even paid for my second year visa early hoping that word work, however it isn’t accepted on MyGovID app until you arrive in Australia.

I have tried the MyGov code generator after reading online helps, however this is just to log into MyGov, it does not support with linking ATO.

HELP PLEASE!

Hi @mattsnape,

Linking myGov to our online services can be tricky if you haven't lodged a tax return before, and it's even trickier after leaving the country.

You can't use myGovID to link.

Here are your two options to lodge:

  1. Contact us on our overseas enquires line to request a linking code, so you can link to our online services and lodge with myTax.
  2. lodge your return another way.
