Hello Experts,

I am currently on 482 Work Visa but I received the invite for PR and I applied for PR on 10th January 2024. and I understand from the date of PR application, I become eligible for Medicare and I need to pay Medicare Levy which is fine..

However All this while (for entire period of 1st July 2023 to 30th June 2024), I have Overseas private hospital cover. I was not aware that Once I become eligible for Medicare, I need to change the Overseas private hospital cover to Local private hospital cover (meant for PRs and citizens). SO my question is for filing tax for 2023-24, what should I mark for the question "Were you and all your dependants covered by an appropriate level of private patient hospital cover from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024". I am confused if it (Overseas Health cover for Medicare eligible tax payer) is considered as 'appropriate level' of private patient hospital cover or not in my case after I applied PR? Can anyone share your views on this?

Because as per my understanding if Overseas cover is not considered 'appropriate level of private hospital cover' , then for the period of 10th Jan to 30th June, I will have to pay MLS as well because I am earning beyond the threshold income limit of MLS.

Hi @kc6498

Your understanding is correct.

You will have to pay MLS if you're over the threshold.
