A few years back I was diagnosed with cancer. Long story short it resulted in having a forequarter amputation on my right side. Being right handed its been a considerable recovery and adjustment. A condition of my drivers licence is having relevant controls fitted now. My vehicle was old and problematic and i since sold it for scrap. I am on a disability pension and have been for years, this means i cannot obtain a personal loan or vehicle finance. i need a vehicle as i have school age children. Can i access my super to purchase a vehicle and then get the controls fitted. I have searched and searched but vehicles already modified to suit are just not available unlike wheelchair or leg related modifications. Any advice will be much appreciated
Hi @Bill.Bill
You can access your super early to purchase a second hand or new vehicle under compassionate grounds. You may also qualify for access due to a terminal medical condition.
You'll need to provide evidence such as medical reports and a quote for the vehicle.
You apply through your ATO online account.
The thing is 60% usage of the vehicle has to be for medical appointments for us to approve your application.
Here's some more info on accessing your super early.
All the best!
