I've received a welcome letter 4 days ago, saying that I've entered into the PAYG instalments system because I meet the criteria based on my tax return.

How do I pay? I see the letter telling me that I will receive an activity statement or instalment notice? I'm quite concern as I have not gotten any statment or notice and the due date for this quarter is 28th October (2 weeks from now).

I've checked the "Manage PAYG Instalments" page and can clearly see the amount I need to pay and that it is set to "Quarterly".

Hi @Ann111

We've got a lot of great info for those new to PAYG Instalments on our pinned thread. When you can, please check some of that as well.

PAYG Instalments is a role that we don't backdate either the start of exit dates. This means your start date depends on when you get entered. You say you received the welcome letter 4 days ago? Your start date will be 01/10/2024. Your first quarter will be the Oct-Dec 24 quarter. You won't have a payment to make until this one is due on 28 Feb 2025.

The reason for this is the way we generate each quarter activity statement. We generate activity statements middle of the third month in the quarter.

PAYG Instalments depend on if the activity statement for a quarter has generated. If you enter after generation, you start next quarter. Example: enter PAYGI at end of September. Start with the next quarter, Oct-Dec.

Being first time enrolled for PAYG installments also, I am also a bit lost. The PAYG introduction letter recommended an installment amount, but I want to be sure I pay to the correct area. So u think pay under activity statement and it will just show up as a credit? I have got the SMS that it is due tomorrow, but I can see nothing due on my online tax service linked on MyGov.

Hi @BenD,

The PAYG introduction letter isn't your official payment notice. You'll start making PAYG instalment payments once we send you an activity statement or instalment notice (which will liekly be sent to electronically to your myGov inbox). For most people this is at the end of each quarter.

It'll appear there under the 'For Action' section of your ATO Online Services. You can manage and pay your instalments through our Online Services once the official statement appears.

We have an article that can help answer your PAYG instalment questions.
