Hey, so I'm trying to do my tax return and I don't know what to do.

I'm on Centrelink so I know the ato has that info all covered. I did work a one day event gig and they (the company) they are apparently "not tax ready" so I don't know what to do about that

However, I did doordash for quite literally all of a week or so last December and so I got like a grand total of like $20 out of doordash (I had an injury, got covid, my car got written off - anything that could've happened? has this year). I forgot I did doordash, ('cause of everything else) so I also still have the abn which I don't know how to close.

i also did surveys online during this time, that had payments via deposit and gift cards which equals to about $260ish.

I am genuinely clueless about how to submit it, I've tried multiple times but the business side of the tax return confuses me and have literally nobody to help me. What do I do? Most of the survey sites/apps don't do receipts, do I need that? I don't know how to get one.

I'm just so stumped I genuinely think I need someone to explain this like they would instructions to a five year old. I'll gladly take any and all advice I can get. THANK YOU!!

Hi @x2han,

First check when your tax return is actually due. If you lodged last year with a tax agent or have engaged once since it may not be due until May next year.

You might want to contact the company and ask when your tax is going to be tax ready.

You'll need to convert the value of the cards to $AUD and include it in your tax return.

We've awesome instructions on our website

to help you lodge. They take you through step by step with heaps of handy info.

What's important though, is when you sign off on your return, you're letting us

know it's true and correct to the best of your knowledge.

It's important to keep your ABN details up-to-date. This includes cancelling it if you're not using it within 28 days. If you need it in the future can apply to have the status of it updated to active.

Keep in mind for next year, if you need help we've an awesome Tax Help program. There's always the option of seeking professional help as well.

You can do this!

Hiya, just write everything down in a notebook or spreadsheet (Google Sheets is free) that you can remember that you earnt during the 2023-2024 financial year. Do it in a table: Date/Source(Company)/Amount

eg

29th December 2023 / Doordash / $20

You should have a record of any payments that you have received either through your bank account. Add it all up and that would be all your income for that year.

This is their advice on survey money https://community.ato.gov.au/s/question/a0J9s0000001Gc1/p00040159

Just report what you can. It's better to err on the good side of the ATO that you're being transparent with them. Don't bother about closing the ABN. Just let it remain there - you may need it in future.
