Hi,

I am a Permanent Resident and applied for Medicare upon arriving in Australia in July 2023. It took several months before I received my Medicare card, which has an issue date of December 2023.

While arranging private health insurance to avoid the Lifetime Health Cover (LHC) loading, I noticed that the date on the LHC letter is November 2023. Upon contacting Medicare, I was informed that the first card was issued in November 2023 but was not delivered to me. The card I received is a replacement issued in December 2023.

As a result, it seems I missed the deadline to purchase private insurance to avoid the LHC loading. Is there any way to rectify this, as I only received the card in December 2023 and was unaware of the earlier issue date?

Thank you for your assistance.

Kind regards,

Chris

Hi @cwong2009,

It would be best to chat to Medicare, the health fund or even the Commonwealth Ombudsman for Private health insurance as it's not something we can assist with.
