I have been notified by First Colonial State that they have transferred my settlement amount to the Australian Tax Office. I haven't lived or worked in Australia for 20 years and do not have a tax number or MyGov account.

How do I access this money?

Who at ATO can I talk to about it?

There is no email address that I can find and the phone number is for local calls. Any helpful suggestions appreciated.

Hi @aarednav,

It'll depend on the amount and your residency.

If you were a temporary resident who long left Australia, you can apply for a Departing Australia Super Payment (DASP).

If you're a citizen or PR of Australia, you have to either wait until you retire, or see if you meet any other early release of super eligible reason.

If you're at or over retirement age (65), you can apply for a direct payment. 😎

Sorry I didn't respond earlier - I just noticed your reply. Should I have received a notification that there was a response?

Anyway thank you for this clear answer.

The amount is a measley $312 which is still above the (needs-to-be-revised-in-my-opinion) $200 threshold for simple release.

As a dual NZ/NL citizen living permanently in France having collected and closed my Australian Super fund and with no accounts in NZ, it seems like I'll have to remember to fill out a form to collect this in a few years time.

Do you agree with that assessment or might there be some way that I missed to collect this now so I can forget about it?

Many thanks for any further insight.
