Hi there

I'm in the process of filling out my tax return for 24/25, and I have to enter my details as an Uber/DoorDash driver. I'm seriously struggling to figure out how to enter it all correctly so I don't get flagged on it. I'm still stuck on the "Personalise Return" page and checking the right boxes. Haven't even attempted the Prepare Return page yet. I tried calling the ATO, but after an hour I got sent a link of a mountain of information I can't decipher.

Is there anyone that can show me how to do all of this step for step?

Would be eternally grateful

Cheers

You would need to answer some questions in Business and Professional Items section and input the income and expenses into the relevant boxes in Net income or loss from business.

Also if registered for GST, remember to be using the GST-exclusive amounts during the periods registered for GST. i.e. while registered for GST, if you receive $110 for a taxable sales, you would have paid $10 to ATO, so sales for income tax is $100. vice versa for expenses. paid $22 for something with GST, then ATO refunds $2 so only paid $20.

I would suggest recording the expenses in a spreadsheet and grouping the expenses under the categories provided on the tax form. Remember for motor vehicle expense, you pick one method.

If you need help on how to use the online form to lodge tax return, you can also read the instructions.

  • What about your bookkeeping you have done for your BAS? Uber is a taxi service so it is mandatory for GST registration. (Unless you mispoke and meant Ubereats)
  • If you don't have bookkeeping, I suggest you start doing it now. i.e. Recording income, expenses and possibly a car logbook for portioning car expenses etc.

Alternative, you can engage with a registered tax agent and lodge it through them.

Hi there

Got that first part done. Now onto the Prepare Return page.

I did misspeak, meant Uber Eats instead. Food delivery, not rideshare.

I have a record of income earned, expenses (fuel, registration, repairs etc.) and kilometres travelled. I just need a hand entering the right details in the right areas.

Regards
