What is the process for lodging a complaint due to a personal contribution to super that arrived in my account on 1 July 2025?

I cannot understand the ruling that says that despite the fact I have a receipt dated prior to June 30 because the money was not received by my super account (due to archaic way of receiving an electronic transfer) until July 1 I cannot claim it. I genuinely don’t understand why the ATO made this ruling, given we are trying to encourage people to put money into super. As long as it is not claimed in both years what is the issue? Other than trying to penalize people trying to do the right thing - how is this the best way to manage it? Surely going after loopholes that don’t actually benefit anyone except the wealthy is a much better use of time for ATO?

It is the tax law that does not allow you to claim the deduction in the 2025 tax year. The ATO is simply applying that law. Complain to the Government, not the ATO, if you think that this is unfair. By complaining to the ATO you would just be wasting their time, which could be better used elsewhere. You could contact your local Federal member and/or the Federal Treasurer with your concerns.

I also know that many super funds warn people to pay amounts before a cut off date in late June e.g. June 26th to avoid this problem.

Oh I thought it was a recent interpretation of when the contribution was made (ie when the payment was instigated rather than when my super account received it) and that this was argued for by the ATO against a tax payer who wanted it to be recognized as when they requested the transfer. So I was wondering why the ATO would argue for this ruling on the interpretation of when a contribution was made rather than accepting the date of the payment request (I would think this a good interpretation of intent/guarantee of money). If the payment does not go through obviously this would have to be rejected and not claimed.
