Hi All,

I have recently applied for early release of my super through the ATO, online.

I have a few questions and would genuinely appreciate any answers as the more I find myself googling, the more confused I am getting 🤣

1. Where will the 22% tax be deducted from? The money I receive into my account or the money that is left in my super account?

2.If the tax is to be withheld from the money that is left in my superannuation account what happens if there is not enough funds in the account to cover the 22% tax amount?

and lastly;

3.How long are processing time for early release of super online?

Thank you so much in advance 😊

Hi @minieemz,

I can definitely help you with this.

1. Where will the 22% tax be deducted from?

The 22% tax is deducted from the money left in your superfund. Provided there's enough in there to cover it plus your requested amount.

2.If the tax is to be withheld from the money that is left in my superannuation account what happens if there is not enough funds in the account to cover the 22% tax amount?

If there's not enough funds in your super account to cover both the requested amount and the 22% tax to be taken, then the tax will come out first and you will get whatever is left over.

So, less than you requested.

3.How long are processing time for early release of super online?

The ATO aim to get the online applications completed within 14 days of when you apply.

This is not always possible though and can depend how many applications have been submitted at any given time as they route to the processing team in date order.

It also depends on if someone has supplied the correct documents, as those are quick to process, whereas if anything is missing it can take longer. 👌
