I am a dual citizen with an Australian passport and I am attempting to build a strong id using the my id app, however because my Australian citizen document had my maiden name and my passport has my married name the system is asking for me to provide proof of name change. There is no option for the name change if you are married abroad? Can you confirm what is required to confirm proof of name change when you hold a UK marriage certificate please?

Hi @ZNGodwin8387

To verify your name change in the myID app and build a strong identity, you'll need an Australian marriage certificate or an Australian change of name certificate. A UK marriage certificate can't be used for this purpose.

The myID app verifies your identity documents through the Australian Document Verification Service, which can only check Australian-issued documents. For proof of name change when using the myID app, the system specifically requires either an Australian marriage certificate or an Australian change of name certificate issued by an Australian state or territory.

If you don't have one of these Australian documents, you won't be able to complete the strong identity verification process through the myID app using your current documents. You may need to obtain an Australian change of name certificate from your state or territory births, deaths and marriages registry to proceed.

To find out more about the documents required for strong identity verification, visit the myID website or check the requirements for updating your name with the ATO, which lists the acceptable Australian identity documents.
