I have been a sole trader my entire life. I have invoiced for every job I have done and have always been responsible for my own tax and any super contribution. My accountant or anyone else who invoices me has said otherwise.

I have done a one off job (there may be some more in the future) and they are asking me to include super on my invoice like so:

The super factor is worked out EG. $120 x 12% = 14.40 or EG. $180 x 12% = 21.60

Example:

13/10   5pm class & 6pm class $40per hour = $80

15/10   5pm class   $40

       Subtotal    $120

less super 12%      $14.40

Amount payable     $105.60

They have stated it is a legal requirement. Changes to the industry.

If super + payment = 120,

then calculation should be:

Invoice 107

+ 12 % super = 107 x 12% = 13

107 + 13 = 120.
