Need to link your myGov account to the ATO? We’ve put together a simple guide to help you through the process.

Step 1: Check your myGov sign in options

Before you can link the ATO to your myGov account, you’ll need to make sure you’re using one of our supported sign in options.

We recommend using myID, the Australian Government's Digital ID app. myID provides a more secure sign in option and can help simplify the linking process.

You’ll need to set up your myID to a Standard or Strong ID strength. If you can, we recommend setting up a Strong myID for the highest level of protection and to help streamline the linking process. The myID website has helpful tips for setting up your identity strength.

For your security, you can't use Answer a secret question as your sign in option when accessing our online services. If you’re currently using this, you'll need to upgrade your myGov sign in option before linking.

Step 2: Linking the ATO to myGov

Once you've signed in to myGov:

  • go to View and link services

  • select Link next to Australian Taxation Office

  • agree to the terms and conditions of use

  • enter or confirm your personal details

  • answer questions to confirm your identity.

When linking online, you may be asked questions about a range of topics to confirm your identity. The questions you’re asked will be based on the info the ATO already has about you.

This could include:

  • your bank account details

  • a super account statement

  • a notice of assessment

  • a Centrelink payment summary

  • investment information

  • a PAYG payment summary

  • your TFN application

  • your ATO payment plan

  • a tax return or BAS

  • your most recent payslip.

If you’re unable to link the ATO to myGov

If you experience an error or need help to successfully link your account, check out our Help and support page for further guidance.

If you can't confirm your identity online, we will let you know during the linking process what to do.

Hello,

I've been trying to call the individual enquiries line, 132861 and keep getting cut off as the line is busy. I've read that the line operates from 8.00am - 6pm. Is this Eastern States time zone? (I'm in WA). Thanks.

Super frustrated with the calling system as I work 10-6 on weekdays so I only have the first hour (8-9am) to get the call done. I already called at 8:02 and they still said the wait time is more than 45 minutes. Waited for 15 minutes then they updated me saying I have progressed which gave me hopes up then continued to repeat that for the next 30 minutes. Why cannot have the line operate 24/7 then I can easily get the linking done on the weekend.

Hello there ATOCommunity! I have recently run into a pickle. I recently have tried to connect my MyGov account to the ATO services. I keep running into an error code:ICI.001. A little bit of background, my “MyID” strength is at standard and I do not have any other supporting documentation such as an immicard or an AUS passport because I have recently launched my 820 partner visa. I have tried to get on the line but I am guessing because its tax season it is hard to get on with someone. If anyone can help me find a way to link my account that would be muuuuch appreciated! Thanks in advanced!

Hey,

I am trying to link the ATO to myGov account for the first time, but it is coming up with the error message “call us to complete the linking process. Error: ICI.001”

I have called 4 times and can still not get through, just to be told “we are experiencing high demand. Sorry we can’t help” and the call disconnects. I’m pretty much at my wits end with this and not sure what to do.

Can anyone please help?

Hi there,

I am attempting to link the ATO to my myGov account for the first time, but I am receiving the following error message: "Details provided do not match ATO records" (Error code: TVLDOC.002).

Upon reviewing my old TFN application, I realized that I accidentally submitted the wrong passport number.

I have tried linking my ATO with myGov again using both my actual passport number and the incorrect one that I originally submitted, but the system continues to display the same error. ("Details provided do not match ATO records")

Could you please advise me on how I can update my passport number in the ATO records, and how I can link my ATO to myGov account?

Thank you for your assistance.

Sincerely,

I'm at my wit's end trying to link to mygov.

I really wish there had been a warning saying 'using myID offers no advantage but endless headaches'.

I'm trying to re-link my ATO with myGov after hours of trying to figure out what was wrong with myID as all I got was it's not strong enough even though I had used it to login to submit my taxes.

I keep getting told my superfund details are wrong, I have no centerlink account, I don't have a chess account for dividends, I don't know how to see my notice of assessment without logging in, and my employer hasn't provided a payg summary in 6 years.

On-top of that every time I've tried to call to get a linking code so I stopped getting blocked for 3 wrong attempts. I get a message that too many people calling, no call back option not even a hold option just 'bye'.

Hi ATO, I logged into mygov and tried to link ATO service. When I filled the TFN and personal details then submitted , the system page showed " Call 132861 for assistance. Error code: PAB.DE.0009".

I called and waited more than 45 minutes, but nobody answered it and automatic disconnection.

Please help urgently, I need to settle TAX RETURN 2024-2025.

thanks,

Aquan

Hi ATO, I have logged into mygov and tried linking my ATO account. I keep getting the error that the bank details I filled in are not corresponding to those on file. In order to check which bank details ATO has on file and possibly correct them, one needs to have their MyGov account linked to ATO...so it's a catch 22.

When then calling the ATO for a linking code, I keep getting hung up on as they do not have anyone to answer the phone. Can you let me know how else I could get the linking code?

Hi ATO team,

Im trying to link myGov to ATO, in the question about Dividend statement, may i know what "investment reference number" is exactly referring to? Is that the Holder identification Number or something else?

Thanks.
