I just logged on to ATO to check my tax return and it says it’s in progress. However at the top of the boxes in the ato app, it says that I owe the amount of over $4000 ? How is this possible ? When I completed the tax return I pressed the button to show an estimate and it was over $4000. Now it’s saying that I actually owe the amount that should be paid to me ? On the list of tax return history it says something like $4335 but with DR after it ?! What’s going on? There’s no way in hell I owe that amount ! I can’t get through to the ATO on the phone either

Hi @Luciej78

I understand it's causing you a lot of stress, but I would suggest that you wait until your return has finished processing. Things change as your return moves through each stage of processing. Once it's done you can see the outcome on your Notice of Assessment.

Our article Where is my tax return? explains the stages your return goes through.

Where in the app does it show the amount? Is it under Original Estimated Outcome?

It says it at the top of the home page on the services ATO app- it says For Action and then says Account Income Tax 003 and then “Pay” and you click pay and it tells me how to pay the over 4 grand with credit card. But when I check my return that I submitted on the 7th it says “in progress”.
