Hi, I submitted a compassionate release of superannuation application online on 3rd of November.

My MyGov account says it was expected to be reviewed by 17th November (14 days from lodgement). Today is 18th November and the application still shows as “Pending”. When I call the ATO, the automated message says to wait until after the 17th to call back for a status update and then hangs up - even though it’s now past this date...

I’m in chronic pain and want to lock in my surgery as soon as possible, but my surgeon has limited operating dates left this year.

Since it’s past the date, is there a way to escalate or follow up with the compassionate release processing team?

Hi @User88

Since your application has now exceeded the 14-day service standard for online applications, you should call our superannuation enquiries line for a status update.

Sometimes applications can be delayed if we haven't received all required documentation or evidence. When you call, we can check your records and let you know what might still be needed or provide a personalised update on your application status.

While there isn't a formal way to fast-track compassionate release applications, we assess each one on a case-by-case basis to comply with the law. You can find more information about how to apply for release of super on compassionate grounds on our website.
