Hello,

I am trying to link the ATO to my myGov account, but the system requires a Strong identity. I do not have an Australian ID, as I am currently living overseas.

Could you please advise how I can obtain a Unique Linking Code in this situation? I need to link the ATO to my myGov account in order to submit the Application for payment of ATO-held superannuation money.

At the moment, the only identifying information I have is my TFN, and I have access to myID with Basic identity level.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi @adaper2011

If you can't link your myGov account because you don't have a Strong identity and you're overseas, you'll need to contact us to obtain a unique linking code. We'll need to verify your identity by asking questions about identity documents such as an Australian driver's licence, Medicare card, or Australian or foreign passport.

The challenge you might face is that if you're no longer in Australia, your foreign passport may not be able to be verified through our systems. If this happens, you may need to lodge your Application for payment of ATO-held superannuation money by paper instead.

To set up and use myID, you need to achieve a Strong or Standard identity strength. However, setting up a Strong identity typically requires Australian identity documents, which you've indicated you don't have access to.

Contact our individual enquiries line to request a linking code. We'll work through the identity verification process with you over the phone. If you can't be verified, we can advise you on the alternative paper lodgment process for your superannuation application.
