Hello, I lodged my tax return on 2nd of August this year and my estimated issue date was 9th of August. For the last week since before the 9th the status of my lodgement was stuck on Balancing Account.

I'm not sure what the reason for this could be and I haven't received any communication from ATO either on any potential information required?

Hi @Shaku1347,

When your return is at balancing account, this means that we have the result, and we're calculating your refund or bill based on your account balance.

Sometimes it takes bit longer to cross-check with other Australian Government agencies (eg. Centrelink), or to make sure that all the information in your return is correct.

We've got some info about why your return may be delayed in our article. If we do need to confirm any info we'll contact you.

If you lodged on the 2nd, it's still well within our processing time frame and nothing to be concerned about :)

Thank you for your reply!

Since I've asked this I've only received a text from ATO saying more time is required to process my return but no other communication. I'm wondering what the reason for this might be?

Hi @shaku1347,

We can't say for sure what the reason is extra time is needed without being able to see your account. There can be several reasons for this.

If your return is still at the balancing account stage it may be that we're waiting for a response from another agency.

In the meantime, you can continue to monitor the status online and we'll contact you directly if there's any issues!

Hi @QUOCVUONGHUYNH,

We would love to help you. ❤

Just a little unsure on what you're asking. ❓

So, 5 months ago you did two tax returns, one for 2023 and one for 2024 years?

But you're also waiting to hear back on the 2022-year return, and you've been waiting 2 years for this to be processed?

Are you needing help finding out what's going on with your account/tax returns? 🧩

We don't have access to your account or info from this platform, so wouldn't be able to update your personal details (new phone number) anyway.

Have you tried logging into myGov and getting linked to the ATO online services? 💻
